AS HOLY Week 2025 approaches, observed from April 13 to 20, Catholics across Cebu City are preparing to deepen their faith through a series of religious activities and pilgrimages to sacred sites throughout the city. These spiritual destinations offer opportunities for prayer, reflection and meditation amidst solemn reminders of Christ’s Passion.

One frequently visited site is Tabor Hill, located in Barangay San Jose and administered by the Order of the Discalced Augustinians. Known for its peaceful atmosphere, the site features thoughtfully placed Stations of the Cross across its grounds, guiding pilgrims through a meaningful journey of Christ’s suffering. The hilltop sanctuary is also home to the Chapel of Holy Relics, which houses over 4,000 sacred relics — one of the largest collections in the country.

Another prominent destination is The Good Shepherd in Celestial Garden, Banawa, where life-size statues vividly portray the Passion of Christ. Every year, thousands gather here to pray, meditate, and participate in the Way of the Cross, especially during Holy Week.

Meanwhile, in the cool highlands of Barangay Sirao, the Divine Mercy Shrine is steadily becoming a favored pilgrimage site. With a towering statue of the Divine Mercy surrounded by lush greenery and sweeping views, it offers a tranquil space for quiet prayer and reflection. Pilgrims visit not only to reconnect with their faith but also to find peace in nature’s embrace.

These sacred sites stand as beacons of faith and hope, inviting the faithful to take a break from their daily routines and journey inward during one of the most significant weeks in the Christian calendar. (Juan Carlo de Vela)
