Some days pass like any other — quietly, uneventfully — and then there are days when time seems to slow, when sunlight filters gently through frosted glass, casting a sacred glow over one of life’s most meaningful milestones: a child’s baptism.
I witnessed such a moment unfold recently at the St. Francis Xavier Chapel of the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where Luis III and Febe Quibranza presented their firstborn, Luzio Franco, to be baptized.
It was an intimate gathering — just immediate family, close friends and the child’s chosen godparents — a deliberate choice that made Luzio’s welcome into the Christian faith feel all the more intentional and profound.
On that joy-filled afternoon, as holy water touched his forehead, Luzio didn’t cry or squirm like most babies. He was calm, wide-eyed and seemed quietly contemplative, as though he sensed the solemnity of the moment, too. Perhaps he’s an old soul. Even the officiant, Fr. Luigi Kerschbamer, OAD, couldn’t help but remark how well-behaved the baby was.
After the ceremony, guests made their way to Misto at Seda Central Bloc, where the celebration continued over a delicious early dinner buffet. Even to friends, it had felt like a family gathering — of warm reunions, good food and the quiet delight of witnessing a new life be officially embraced by a community of love. As the group enjoyed the food and each other’s company, Luzio, newly baptized and blissfully unaware of all the love surrounding him, slept soundly in his stroller.
As I sat there in quiet reflection, honored not just to witness this day but to stand as Luzio’s godmother, I was overcome with gratitude. I’ve watched Luis and Febe grow together — I was there when they got married, and now here I was again, part of a new chapter of their story. Only this time, it included a new and precious main character: Luzio.
His christening was a celebration of faith, family and joy — a moment steeped in purpose and filled with the devotion of parents who understand that life’s most meaningful events are often the simplest ones.
Welcome to the Christian community, Luzio Franco Quibranza! Your story is just beginning and it’s already so full of grace.
