EIGHT teams – two representing Taiwan – will compete in the 6th San Remegio Properties basketball tournament starting today, July 23, 2025, at the Magis Arena in Mandaue City.

Aside from the two Taiwanese teams, Manila-based San Sebastian College, mentored by coach Chelito Caro, and St. Robert’s International School of Iloilo City are also joining the fray.

These teams will compete against top Cebu squads: Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Team 1 and Team 2, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, and defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers.

The eight teams are divided into two brackets.

Bracket A is composed of SHS-AdC Team 1, USPF, St. Robert’s, and Taiwan-based Yilan National High School Team 2, while Bracket B is made up of defending champion UV Baby Lancers, SHS-AdC Team 2, San Sebastian College, and Yilan National High School Team 1.

Each bracket will follow a single-round robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals, where the emerging winners will then compete in the championship game.

“The purpose of this tournament has always been to give the teams an avenue for preparation for the big leagues. As you know, I also love basketball, and this is my love for this sport. It’s also my chance to give back to my alma mater, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu,” said Mark Anthony Ynoc, the brainchild of the tournament.

“Previously, in my high school days, I played for this team. The discipline and moral values I gained from playing basketball for this team have brought me to greater heights. So, this is my way of paying it forward to my alma mater. We want to share the stage and experience with the participating teams,” Ynoc added. (JBM)
