CEBU Vice Governor Glenn Soco on Monday, July 28, 2025, expressed his wish that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had addressed the issue of online gambling in his State of the Nation Address (Sona), stressing the need for stricter regulation of digital platforms.

“Yes, I think there has to be more regulation sa atong online platform and that is, I think, one of the legislative priorities that we will undertake,” Soco said.

He noted that the Cebu Provincial Board has already passed two resolutions related to online gambling activities, signaling growing concern about the issue at the local level.

“I could really read unsay sentiments sa Provincial Board,” he said. “Moving forward, we should really tackle that, not just the national administration.”

Soco also said that he was looking for more Cebu-specific projects in the Sona, particularly updates on major infrastructure developments in the province.

“I would like to know the status of the fourth bridge [in Cebu] and the Metro Cebu Expressway,” he said.

Soco acknowledged Marcos’ call for unity at the start of his speech but viewed it as a reflection of current national divisions “an indicator that we are divided as a nation.”

“I wish that the President can unite the country and make it a concerted effort to unite all sectors and political colors,” he added.

Soco also welcomed the administration’s support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as efforts to attract foreign investments.

He lauded the Philippines’ economic performance, noting its current rank as fourth among Asean countries.

“The President is in the middle of his term and there are so many things he can still do… working for the vision of our country,” he added. (CDF)
