Filipina basketball star Jack Animam is set to undergo surgery in Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States after suffering an injury to her left knee.

The injury will sideline the 6-foot-5 forward for the next six months, thus derailing her bid to join the WNBA. It also means that Animam may be absent from the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team, specifically in their campaign for another gold medal in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, later this year.

Animam is coming off a successful showing for Radnicki Kragujevac in the First Women’s Basketball League of Serbia, where she averaged 20 points and 14.3 rebounds in eight games. She is the first Filipina to play pro basketball in Europe.

She is also coming off a celebrated collegiate career where she helped lead the National University and Shih Hsin University to perfect seasons in the UAAP and the University Basketball Association, respectively.
