Asian Orthopedics-2014 slips past UNAHCO-2022 in Shaabaa

THE Asian Orthopedics-2014 rode the heroics of power forward Lucky Ecarma down the stretch to tow them to a thrilling 73-70 win over the plucky UNAHCO-2022 in Division C of the 25th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (Shaabaa) on Wednesday night, August 3, 2022, at the Magis Eagles Arena inside the Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.

Trailing by as much as 11 in the second half, 2014 made their move in the fourth canto, outscoring 2022, 23-11, to grab their second win in a row. Leading their comeback was Ecarma who scored the go-ahead bucket and added two clutch free-throws in crunchtime to secure the victory for his squad.

Ecarma finished with a whopping 33 points -- on a hyper-efficient 14-of-18 shooting -- to go with 16 rebounds and three assists. Jair Igna added 18 markers and eight boards.

Uriel Avila led 2022 with 25 points, eight rebounds, and four dimes.

In the other Division C match, the MDP Customs Brokerage-2013 crushed the Casa Mira-2021, 90-66. 2013 seized complete control of the match in the second canto with a massive 27-10 run that gave them a commanding 30-point lead at halftime, 55-25.

Rendell Senining had a near-triple-double of 33 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Arc Gabrielle Araw-Araw added 20. Fletcher Galvez put up 16, while Manu Fernando chipped in 11.

In Division B, the Cebu Landmasters-2003 clobbered the Marjaztin Glass Trading & Construction-2008, 89-76, for their second straight victory. It was another easy win for 2003, which led by as much as 30 points.

Justin Huang had 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while Carlo Alerta and Ervin Lopeña chimed in with 17 apiece, the latter adding 11 boards and three steals. Daryle Tan had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.

The 04 the Win-2004 also routed the Starkwood Properties Inc.-2009, 75-52. Franco Te had a double-double of 24 points and 11 boards, while Christopher Consunji had 18 markers and eight rebounds to tow their team to the dominant win. (JNP)
