SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) advanced to the High School Girls’ division semifinals of the 9th St. Ignatius Invitational Volleyball Cup after going unbeaten yesterday in the Lux Oriens Gym of SHS-AdC in Canduman, Mandaue City.
SHS-AdC finished at the top of Bracket B with eight points from an unbeaten 3-0 slate. SHS-AdC swept both St. Theresa’s College (STC) and SHS-AdC Developmental team in two sets and defeated Dalaguete National High School, two sets to one.
USJ-R, on the other other hand, topped Bracket A with nine points after sweeping all of its three matches against Abellana National School (ANS), University of Bohol (UB) and St. Louis School-Don Bosco (SLS-DB).
“This is our ninth edition and is in line with the celebration of St. Ignatius Loyola,” organizer and SHS-AdC head coach Mario Sala told SunStar Cebu. “It’s also perfect timing in preparation for the upcoming Rebisco (formerly Shakey’s V-League) tournament next month.”
SHS-AdC could face either St. Louis College-Cebu (SLCC) or SHS-AdC Lux Oriens. As of press time, SLCC was up ahead in Bracket C with five points, while SHS-AdC Lux Oriens had four points, with both teams still set to face against each other.
USJ-R will be facing the the top runner-up of all three groups.
The semifinals will start at 8 a.m., while the final will be at 10:30 a.m.
On the other hand, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) led the High School Boys’ category after going unbeaten. (EKA)
