AFTER losing its opener, the Philippines Under-22 Azkals logged its first point in Group A of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games after a 1-1 draw with host Cambodia on May 2, 2023 at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The Azkals found themselves down in the opening half of the match after a goal by Cambodian striker Ky Rina. Just in the nick of time, midfielder Dov Cariño hit the back of the net in the third minute of added time.
The Philippines lost to Indonesia, 3-0, in its opening match.
Cambodia leads Group A with four points followed by Indonesia with three points. Myanmar is third also with three points followed by the Philippine in fourth place a point, while Timor-Leste is at the bottom with no points.
The Philippines is up against Timor-Leste tonight, May 4, while Indonesia is playing against Myanmar.
As of press time, the Philippines Women’s team was playing against Myanmar at the Army Stadium in Phnom Penh. The Filipinas, currently ranked 49th in the world, is in Group A with defending SEA Games gold medalist Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia and Malaysia. (EKA)
