Bayogos beats Adolfo for interim PBF title

BRYL Bayogos stayed unbeaten after a unanimous victory over Cebu-based Michael Adolfo on Saturday night, Aug. 25, 2023 in an action-packed eight round battle in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Adolfo had a quick start and dug on the body of Bayogos in the opening round.

In the second round, Adolfo kept his aggressive pace and rocked Bayogos with a solid left. The referee did an awful job and called a knockdown on Adolfo even though it was more of a push by Bayogos.

Bayogos found some success with long reach and his jab but Adolfo continued to connect with his haymakers.

Bayogos did a better job in the fourth using his long reach to land combinations but Adolfo landed some solid shots near the end of the round.

In the fifth, Bayogos fought intelligently by keeping the distance and landing some of his combinations on Adolfo.

In the sixth, Adolfo was very aggressive and landed some solid shots to the head and body of Bayogos.

Bayogos made a late push in the last two rounds and it paid off as he got the nod of all three judges with scores of 76-75, 76-75 and 77-74.

Bayogos remained unbeaten and improved to 6-0-1 with two knockouts, while Adolfo suffered his second straight loss and dropped to 4-2 with two knockouts.

With the win, Bayogos captured the interim Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super bantamweight belt.

In the undercard, Ricky Cristobal (3-1, 1 KO) defeated experienced Marjon Piencenaves (6-7-1, 4 KOs) by unanimous decision in an entertaining six-rounder, while Kevin Villanueva (1-0) had a successful pro debut with a convincing unanimous decision win over Elizer Ambon (1-12, 1 KO). / EKA
