ITALIAN diver Alessia Zecchini set the free diving world record for constant weight with bi-fins during the 2023 Secret Blue Depth Competition in Moalboal, Cebu on March 29-31, 2023.

Zecchini, a first-time visitor to the Philippines, dove 107 meters in three minutes and 26 seconds on Wednesday, March 29, to break the 106-meter record of Slovenian Alenka Artnik set in the Kas Baska competition in Turkey in 2021.

Two days later, Zecchini broke her own record with a dive of 109 meters off the waters of Moalboal in three minutes 38 seconds.

“I came for this. I trained a lot for this,” said Zecchini, who promised to return to Cebu and dive off Camotes next month.

Aside from Zecchini, two divers from Taiwan set an Asian record and a country record.

Lin Lan Lien set her country’s record for free immersion, diving 65 meters on the third day after dives of 63 and 64 meters on the first two days. Ming Chun Huang, on the other hand, set the Asian CWTB record at 98 meters.

The competition was originally scheduled in April 2020 but was moved due to the pandemic. (PR)
