Jonas reports on Mandaue's Covid initiatives, 2021 plans

MANDAUE Mayor Jonas Cortes highlighted the city's Covid-19 response initiatives, plans to improve fire fighting efforts, contruction of sports facilities, and assistance to micro and small enterprises in his state of the city address on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

In celebration of Mandaue City's 51st Charter Day, Cortes emphasized the efforts the City Government has done this year particularly in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Cortes credits the strategic teams: contact tracing team, diagnostic and testing team, patient management and monitoring team, logistics and support team, data management team and, management of the dead for the recent increase in patients recovering from Covid-19 and the decrease of city's active cases.

A total of 361,994 relief goods has been distributed to all the residents of Mandaue when the city was under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The city has also provided 120 buses to transport passengers in Mandaue City to other neighboring cities and towns.

The City Government has also installed a bike repair station at S.B. Cabahug St. and plans to put up more as more people have opted to use bicycles.

In support of the education system's new normal, the city has allocated P130 million for the purchase of information technology equipment such as laptops and other gadgets for students and teachers this coming school year.

Plans for 2021

For next year, Cortes plans to purchase a ladder that can reach up to nine floors for fire fighting efforts by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Cortes also announced that a sports oval in Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City will soon rise, and phase one of the projects will start next year.

To help the micro and small enterprises that were affected by the pandemic, Cortes announced that the city have partnered with financial institutions to link them with the micro and small enterprises that needed funding. (KFD)
