FORMER world title challengers Giemel Magramo and Genesis Servania lost their respective fights in Japan, continuing this year’s trend of Pinoy pugs losing to their Japanese counterparts in the “Land of the Rising Sun.”
Magramo, who came into the fight with back-to-back victories, failed to defend his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight strap after a one-sided unanimous decision defeat to Taku Kuwahara on Oct. 25.
Judges Tetsuya Iida and Akihiko Katsuragi had identical scores of 117-111, while judge Nobuhiro Matsubara saw it closer with a score of 116-112, all in favor of the Japanese challenger.
The 28-year-old Magramo, who fought for a world title two years ago, dropped to 26-3 with 21 knockouts, while Kuwahara improved to 11-1 with six knockouts.
Meanwhile, Servania suffered his second straight defeat following a knockout loss to former world champion Ryosuke Iwasa on the same day.
Iwasa demolished Servania in the 1:46 mark of the fourth round.
Servania suffered his second straight loss in a span of two years after losing to Andres Cortes last year. He’s now 34-4 with 16 knockouts.
Iwasa successfully bounced back after losing to Murodjon Akhmadaliev in a world title fight last year. He improved to 28-4 with 18 knockouts.
On the other hand, ArAr Andales (14-2-2, 6 KOs) settled for a technical draw with Tsubasa Kuora (15-2-1, 10 KOs) in the undercard.
The fight was stopped at the 30-second mark of the second round after an accidental clash of heads.
