UNBEATEN Igorot prospect Carl Jammes Martin continues to impress after a lopsided unanimous decision over Tanzanian Charles Tondo on July 30, 2022 at the SM City San Lazaro in Manila.
Martin successfully defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super bantamweight belt after getting the nod of all three judges with lopsided scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 118-108.
The 23-year-old Martin kept his unblemished record and improved to 20-0 with 16 knockouts, while Tondo dropped to 12-6-2 with five knockouts.
Martin is slowly creeping up the world rankings and is being considered by most pundits as one of the future stars of Philippine boxing. He is currently rated No. 11 by the WBA, No. 13 by the International Boxing Federation, No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization and No. 19 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).
In the undercard, WBA No. 12 ranked light flyweight Miel Fajardo (9-1-2, 8 KOs) knocked out former world title contender Richard Claveras (19-10-2, 16 KOs) in a single round; Jose Roda Jr. (8-1-2, 1 KO) outclassed journeyman Eduardo Mancito (18-14-2, 9 KOs) by unanimous decision; Mark Louie Santiago (1-0) had a successful pro debut with a majority decision over Aldren Jake Tayaban (1-1, 1 KO); Arjhay Recto (1-0) beat fellow newcomer Jake Acude (0-1) by majority decision; and Louie Jay Albino (2-1) walked away with a split decision over John Vincent Lauriaga (0-1).
