UNBEATEN prospect Carl Jammes Martin makes his first title defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super bantamweight strap against Tanzanian Charles Tondo on July 30 in Manila.
Martin looks to continue his impressive run in the pro ranks and improve his rankings for a run at a world title.
The 23-year-old Ifugao warrior is currently rated No. 11 by the WBA, No. 13 by the International Boxing Federation and No. 20 by the World Boxing Council.
Martin was tested in his last fight against veteran Ronnie Baldonado in a vacant WBA Asia super bantamweight bout last March 12 in Parañaque City.
Baldonado dropped Martin in the second round. However, Martin showed a ton of heart as he weathered the storm and stopped Baldonado in the 11th round.
Tondo, on the other hand, is a 23-year-old prospect from Dar-Es-Salaam.
He’s eager to bounce back after coming off a unanimous decision defeat to undefeated Brit Dennis McCann in a World Boxing Organization Youth super bantamweight contest on March 19 in England.
Martin is 19-0 with 16 knockouts, while Tondo is 12-5-2 with five knockouts.
