Ramirez wins 3rd gold for PH in Asian Games

IT’S back-to-back gold medals in Jiu-jitsu for the Philippines in the 19th Asian Games after Annie Ramirez defeated Kazakhstan’s Galina Duvanova in the Women’s -57KG finals on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at the XSL Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.

Ramirez’s gold medal win came a day after her teammate, Margarita Ochoa, won the Philippines’ second gold medal last Thursday, Oct. 5.

Ramirez beat Duvanova, 2-0, on points.

Ramirez walked away with an advantage win over Vietnamese Le Thi Thuong in the Round of 16. She then outclassed Indonesian Fiona Toh, 7-0, on points in the quarterfinals. Ramirez earned a spot in the finals after submission win over UAE’s Shamsa Alameri in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Jenna Napolis won a bronze medal in Jiu-jitsu after beating UAE’s Hessa Alshamsi, 4-2, in the Women’s -52KG division.

The Philippines is now 19th place in the overall medal standings with three gold medals, two silvers and 12 bronzes.

In Sepak Takraw, the Philippines settled for a bronze after losing to Malaysia, 0-2, in the Men’s Regu event. (EKA)
