CEBU-BASED Strive CCA-Jiujitsu Methods had an impressive medal haul in the Asian Jiujitsu Federation-Manila Open Championship on Aug. 20 and 21 at the Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Strive CCA-Jiujitsu Methods racked up a total of 20 medals from just seven competitors—head coach and former sportswriter Lemuel Maglinte, Josh Ybañez, Caezar Cabang, Eric Los Banos, Jamieboy Fabula, Michael Kevin Noynay and Sebastian Villamor.

“We are a young team but we tried our best to represent Cebu. It’s hard competing in big tournaments like these because of the logistics and lack of resources but we managed to get enough support that we can get,” Maglinte, also an unbeaten MMA fighter, told SunStar Cebu.

“Hopefully more Cebuanos will enter jiujitsu because we are really capable of making it big in this sport.”

Strive CCA-Jiujitsu Methods nabbed seven golds, six silvers and seven bronze medals.

Ybañez, Noynay and Fabula won two gold medals each in the Adults division white belt, Masters division white belt and Masters division blue belt categories, respectively. Maglinte also won a gold in the Masters division purple belt.

The tournament also featured fighters from the US, South Korea, Japan, India, Morocco, Great Britain, India, Iraq and Indonesia.
