LOCAL Martial Arts gym Strive CCA’s two promising young fighters Josh Ybañez and EJ Patron are seeing action in “Battle for Supremacy” Amateur and elite Muay Thai Tournament on June 24, 2023, at the Barangay Balugo Gymnasium in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Ybañez locks horns with fellow unbeaten fighter Mark James Torreon of Iligan City, while Patron faces off with Jhon Michael Bina of Siaton.

“Aside from experience, this tournament is to build their confidence more. My goal is to have more younger fighters that will represent not only my team but Cebu,” Strive CCA head coach Lemuel Maglinte told SunStar Cebu.

The 18-year-old Ybañez is a multi-sport athlete that competes in MMA, Muay Thai and wrestling. He’s undefeated in Muay Thai with a 3-0 record. Torreon also hasn’t tasted defeat and is 2-0 in Muay Thai.

The 21-year-old Patron has been fighting in amateur MMA ranks and has a 4-0 MMA record. He’ll be making his debut in Muay Thai.

His opponent, Bina, is a Pencak Silat fighter. Pencak Silat is an Indonesian form of martial arts that’s also full contact like Muay Thai. Aside from strikes it also has grappling, throwing and the use of weapons.

“Battle for Supremacy” Amateur and Elite Muay Thai Tournament is promoted by Maxzeal Fitness Center in coordination with the LGU Balugo Council and is sanctioned by the Philippine Thai Boxing Association.

The Muay Thai show features promising fighters from Dumaguete, Cebu, Siaton, Iligan and Siquijor. (EKA)
