THE Talisay City Aquastars repeated as champions as they completed a sweep of Carcar after defeating the Lechoneros, 85-67, in Game 2 of the finals in the Gullas Cup 2020 at the Talisay City Sports Complex on Friday night, March 6, 2020.
Talisay City flipped the switch on in the fourth period with a fiery offensive explosion that turned the lights out on Carcar’s title hopes. The win allowed the Aquastars to sweep the best-of-three finals series, 2-0, after winning Game 1, 97-93, on Carcar’s home court.
Up by just two, 52-50, with just 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Aquastars suddenly could not miss as they unleashed a 33-18 blast that turned what was a close game into a one-sided affair.
Rubino Singson collected a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with two assists and three blocks to lead Talisay City to the title-clinching victory. Jhaylord Castro also pumped in 15 points while versatile combo guard Keaton Taburnal had 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal and was named as the Finals MVP (most valuable player).
Clark Ruedas also filled up the stat-sheet with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
Leonila Martorillas paced Carcar with 12 points, six rebounds and four steals while Jhevolks Navarra added 11 markers. (JNP)
