THE University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) kicked off their Cebu City Olympics football campaign with easy wins at the Cebu City Sports Center last Wednesday, Nov. 14.

USJ-R, which recently lost the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., blanked the Abellana National School, 4-0, setting up an exciting rematch with Don Bosco Technological Center today.

The DBTC is the defending champion of the event, most of last year’s players who won the crown for the Bosconians are now playing for USJ-R.

John Jubac opened the scoring for USJ-R in the 20th minute, while Louis Manlosa doubled the scoreline four minutes later. Jubac completed his brace four minutes after the break and Angelo Colina made it 4-0 in the 63rd.

On the other hand, USC-BED had an even easier time against St. Theresa’s College, handing them a 15-0 beatdown with two players scoring hat tricks. Lawrence Mendoza needed only 19 minutes to score three, while Mark Calape made it 4-0 in the 23rd.

USC scored six more goals in the first half to put the outcome beyond doubt, while Ryll Eldian connected twice in the second to complete his hat trick.

Today, DBTC will face USJ-R in the third game, while USC-BED will face Lahug in the last game. The first game at 9 a.m. will have Lahug Elementary School taking on City Central School, while DBTC will face St. Theresa’s College/Cebu Learning Center in the second game.

There are only four teams in the elementary division, while the high school division has six teams. (ML)
