POWERHOUSE University of San Carlos (USC) survived an early scare and routed Southwestern University for its second win in the collegiate division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) futsal tournament at the USC Main gym.

With USC misfiring from close range and hitting early the bar thrice, SWU took a surprise 2-0 lead, thanks to Vichie Uyeche’s flick and Marie Lao’s cheeky goal of a kick-in.

However, after a timeout and some adjustments, USC quickly seized the upperhand, scoring two quick goals before tearing the SWU defense to shreds to gain the upperhand.

Denis Lood had four goals, Kiara AMarga and Kathrene Tagalog each had three, while Andrea Badinas and Joline Colon each had two. It was USC’s second straight win after its 5-2 win over the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

In the secondary division, USC took the lead after winning its first three games, while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu is second at 2-0.

USC blanked SWU-Phinma, 10-0, with Trizza Musni scoring four goals and Nathaniel Acosta adding two and also got past the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 6-4.

Musni had three, while Acosta, KC Gonzaga and Jerlyn Tagalog had one each. Kaila Tolato had two for USPF, while Bridgette Gamoso and Krystal Longakit had one each.

USC also won against USJ-R with Acosta and KC GOnzaga scoring twice and Muzni and Tagalog scoring one each. Mercy Cañete scored USJ-R’s two goals.

On the other hand, Ateneo had a 14-0 win over SMS Girlstown, with Maegan Alforque scoring four and Raya Tolentino and Jodi Banzaon scoring three each. Ateneo also had an easy win over USJ-R, 7-0, with Kim Joo Yin scoring three and Alforque getting a brace.

USJ-R got its lone win against SMS, 7-0, thanks to an impressive six-goal tally by Cañete. Girlstown also earned a win over newcomer SWU, 4-0. Patricia Lozada had a hat trick while Max Tomos had one. (ML)
