THE first week of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Esports League (CEL) Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) division Group A games took place at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Lahug Campus on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.
The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors claimed the top spot. The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Blue Dragons, and University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters are tied with a 2-4 win-loss record, respectively.
The USC Warriors won all of their matches in a dominant fashion. In their first match, against the UC Webmasters, Shin Maverick “Shin” Formaran led the Warriors to a resounding 2-0 series victory, averaging 5.5 kills and 4.5 assists. Jeshua Luke “Luketzyy” Miano tallied a total of nine kills and seven assists against the CEC Blue Dragons in another 2-0 series victory for USC. USC capped off their first week with a victory against the defending champion, UCLM Webmasters. Formaran claimed another MVP award after a clean performance. USC finished with an impressive 6-0 win-loss record.
The UC Webmasters bounced back with a 2-0 victory against the CEC Blue Dragons after losing the series against the USC Warriors. Patrick Errol “Eros” Ortilano averaged eight kills and 8.5 assists to earn the MVP of the match in their victory against CEC. UC suffered a 2-0 loss in their match against the UCLM Webmasters. UC ended week one with a 2-4 win-loss record.
The CEC Blue Dragons pulled off an upset after sweeping the UCLM Webmasters. Dominic “Domsqweee” Rabago claimed the MVP after averaging 5.5 kills and 3.5 assists. CEC lost to UC and USC in their first two matches, ending week one with a 2-4 record.
The defending champion, UCLM Webmasters, was victorious against the UC Webmasters. Skepper Lei “Lai” Bacarro was awarded with the MVP after averaging 11 kills and nine assists. UCLM then fell to CEC and USC, resulting in their 2-4 win-loss record.
Week two of the CEL MLBB division will feature matches between competitors in Group B. The matches will be broadcast live on the CEL Facebook page. / MARLON ADO JR.
