Yaw-Yan Ardigma holds annual martial arts Summer Camp

WITH a lot of time to spare in the summer, children can keep themselves busy by learning martial arts in Yaw-Yan Ardigma Mixed Martial Arts Gym's annual Summer Clinic on the fourth floor of the Coast Pacific Downtown Center across the University of Cebu Campus along Sanciangko St., Cebu City.

The Summer Clinic, themed "Say Yes To Life and Say No To Drugs," offers courses in different disciplines—Arnis/Eskrima, Boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing and Yaw-Yan Combat Self Defense.

Enrollment of the first batch is still ongoing. Student will train under the tutelage of Master Benigno "Ekin" Caninga Jr., who's the founder of Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu and is widely considered as "the father of Cebu MMA."

Yaw-Yan Ardigma is one of the top MMA gyms in the Visayas area. The gym has produced some elite MMA and Muay Thai fighters like former ONE Championship warriors Roel "Akiyama" Rosauro and Alan Allan Albindo, URCC fighter Engie Piloto and devastating striker Renan "Flash" Noblefranca.

Yaw-Yan Ardigma or Arnis Pandigma is unique because some of its strikes are patterned from arnis. It's one of the three Yaw-Yan branches that was created by Yaw-Yan founder, the late Grandmaster Napoleon "Nap" Fernandez.

Yaw-Yan is an all-original Filipino martial art that was introduced by Fernandez to the public back in 1972 in Sta. Cruz, Manila. (EKA)
