AT least 228 cases of road accidents and bite cases linked to stray dogs and cats have been recorded in the town of Moalboal in Cebu, prompting the local government unit to ramp up efforts in addressing the concern on stray animals.
The Moalboal Public Information Office posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, July 21, 2025 that the 228 cases were recorded from January to June 2025.
It added that the Municipal Government of Moalboal has been closely monitoring these incidents.
Data collected monthly during the first half of the year revealed the cases peaked last April with 78 incidents recorded.
This surge prompted intensified action from local officials.
In response, Moalboal has ramped up its dog-catching operations.
The local government also launched a free spay and neuter program in June, an initiative aimed to control the stray animal population more sustainably.
As a result, officials observed a decline in cases during May and June. They attributed the decrease in May to a temporary limitation on interventions caused by a ban on election-related financial assistance.
The decline in cases in June, on the other hand, aligned with the rollout of the free spay and neuter program. / CDF
