THE recent world title fight between former Olympian Charly Suarez and World Boxing Organization (WBO) super-featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete has officially been declared a no-contest by the California State Athletic Commission.

Suarez suffered a controversial technical decision defeat to Navarrete after the fight was stopped in the eighth round due to a cut above the Mexican champion’s left eye last May 10, 2025 (US time) in San Diego, California.

All three judges scored it for Navarrete with scores of 77-76, 78-75 and 77-76.

In the sixth round, Navarrete suffered the huge gash which was ruled by referee Edward Collantes as an accidental headbutt. But, upon review, it was a solid right straight that opened up Navarrete.

After the decision was overturned to a no-contest, Suarez now remains undefeated at 18-0 with 10 knockouts, while Navarrete is 39-2-1 with 32 knockouts.

The WBO, on the other hand, has already ordered a rematch between Suarez and Navarrete. / EKA
