WITH 3,407,780 registered voters, Cebu remains the most vote-rich province in the Philippines, giving it significant political influence. In the recently concluded 2025 midterm elections, held just six days ago, Cebu once again proved its importance on both local and national fronts. The province’s high turnout played a key role in electing several senatorial candidates who drew strong support from the region.

In Cebu City, long lines and energized precincts reflected voters’ commitment to democracy. From first-time voters to longtime participants, many braved the heat and long waits to cast their ballots. Election officials reported smooth conduct overall, with only minor issues, while civil society groups praised the orderly process.

Locally, Cebu saw a major political shake-up. Several incumbent officials, including the governor, mayors and councilors, were unseated by challengers pushing for reform and transparency, signaling a public demand for change.

As the dust settles, Cebu’s electoral clout remains evident. With its large and active electorate, the province continues to shape national trends.

Newly elected officials will assume office at noon on June 30. As they transition into their roles, they are expected to begin fulfilling campaign promises, from infrastructure and healthcare to governance and economic reforms.
