FAST-RISING young prospect Reymart Tagacanao faces another stiff test in experienced former regional champion Jaysever Abcede in the eight-round main event of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions’ “Kumong Bol-anon XXI,” on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Brgy. Mangga Covered Court in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Although Tagacanao’s experience isn’t as vast as Abcede’s, he’s confident that he’ll get through this tough assignment.
“For me, I won’t be looking for a knockout, rather an impressive win,” the 25-year-old Tagacanao told SunStar Cebu. “He’s a tough veteran but I believe I can beat him.”
With just 10 fights in a three-year career, Tagacanao has already made waves in the super-flyweight division. He’s the current World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super-flyweight titleholder and is the organization’s No. 15-ranked super-flyweight.
Tagacanao just won the biggest fight of his career after an eighth-round knockout of Phai Pharob in Bohol last December.
“Yes, I’m ready for the next level. I’ll just wait for the decision of my promoter and my coach on what opportunity they will give to me,” said Tagacanao, who’s training under the tutelage of renowned Cebuano coach Edito Villamor.
The 30-year-old Abcede is a former WBA Asia and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental champion. He owns a win over former world champion Seigo Yuri Akui and has faced the cream of the crop in boxing lower weight divisions – the likes of former world champions Panya Pradabsri, Wanheng Menayothin and Masataka Taniguchi.
Abcede just won once in his last five fights and is coming off a fifth-round technical knockout defeat to Taniguchi.
Tagacanao is 10-0 with eight knockouts, while Abcede is 22-14 with 13 knockouts.
In the co-main feature, Shane Gentallan (11-1, 6 KOs) locks horns with ex-World Boxing Council International light flyweight king Jonathan Refugio (22-12-5, 8 KOs).
The bout that will most likely steal the show is a Philippine Youth minimumweight title clash between Joseph Sumabong (7-1, 4 KOs) and Joperson Trazo (8-3-1, 1 KO).
Also in the undercard, Gerwin Asilo (10-1, 4 KOs) takes on Jason Mopon (11-21, 1 KO), Leonard Pores III (6-0, 5 KOs) trades leathers with Christian Dave Puing (5-2, 4 KOs), Freshler Utrera (2-0, 1 KO) is fighting Romel Eton (2-0, 1 KO), and Datu Adam (3-0, 2 KOs) faces off with Paolo Fortun (3-2, 1 KO). / EKA
