UNBEATEN Cebuano prospect Reymart Tagacanao proved that he’s ready for bigger names in his division after a dominant stoppage win over veteran former regional champion Jaysever Abcede in PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions’ “Kumong Bol-anon XXI” last Friday night, June 6, 2025, at the Barangay Mangga Covered Court in Tagbilaran City.

The 25-year-old Taganao was methodic with his approach and used his jab as his main weapon to start the fight.

In the second round, Abcede found his range and landed a few good shots that bothered Tagacanao.

In the third round, Taganao turned the pace up and attacked Abcede aggressively. He finally connected with a solid punch and dropped Abcede with a right straight to the jaw.

Tagacanao continued to batter Abcede in the fourth round. At the end of the fifth round, Abcede, who was in survival mode, had enough and quit on his stool.

“I want to thank God that I’m safe and that I won the fight. I also want to thank my opponent for the added experience,” Tagacanao told SunStar Cebu. “I will wait for the decision of my team on what’s next for me. I’m ready (for the top fighters in my division).”

Tagacanao, ranked No. 15 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) in the super-flyweight division, improved to 11-0 with nine knockouts, while Abcede dropped to 22-15 with 13 knockouts.

Meanwhile, Joseph Sumabong (8-1, 4 KOs) bagged the Philippine minimumweight belt with a unanimous-decision win over previously undefeated prospect Joperson Trazo (5-1-1, 1 KO).

Sumabog got the nod of all three judges with identical scores of 77-75.

On the other hand, Shane Gentallan (12-1, 7 KOs) scored a huge win with a fourth-round technical knockout of experienced Jonathan Refugio (22-13-5, 8 KOs).

In the undercard, Gerwin Asilo (11-1, 5 KOs) stopped Jason Mopon (11-22, 1 KO) in the second round, Leonard Porres III (7-0, 6 KOs) remained unbeaten with a first-round knockout of Christian Dave Puing (5-3, 4 KOs), Freshler Utrera (3-0, 1 KO) defeated Rommel Eton (2-1, 1 KO) by unanimous decision in a battle of undefeated fighters and Datu Adam (4-0, KOs) outclassed Paolo Fortun (3-3, 1 KO) by unanimous decision. / EKA
