UNDEFEATED Cebuano prospect Reymart Tagacanao headlines PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions’ “Kumong Bol-anon XXI,” where he takes on veteran Jaysever Abcede in an eight-rounder on June 6, 2025, in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
“This will be a good fight. It will be a challenging fight because he (Abcede) is experienced and packs a punch,” Tagacanao told SunStar Cebu.
The 25-year-old Tagacanao is coming off the biggest win of his career. He successfully defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super-flyweight title with an eighth-round knockout of seasoned Thai fighter Phai Pharob last Dec. 21, 2024, in Bohol.
Tagacanao is currently rated No. 15 by the WBA.
“Every fight is important for me,” said the 25-year-old prospect from Carcar City.
Abcede is a veteran of 36 pro bouts and was once ranked in the world. He owns a win over former world champion Seigo Yuri Akui and has also fought top-tier fighters such as former world champions Panya Pradabsri, Wanheng Menayothin, and Masataka Taniguchi.
Abcede, however, is on a rocky part of his career, losing five of his last seven bouts over the past five years.
Tagacanao is 10-0 with eight knockouts, while the 30-year-old Abcede is 22-14 with 13 knockouts.
In the main supporting bout, Shane Gentallan (11-1, 6 KOs) will be tested against veteran Jonathan Refugio (22-12-5, 8 KOs).
Also featured in the show is a fight for the Philippine Youth minimumweight title between Joseph Sumabong (7-1, 4 KOs) and Joperson Trazo (8-3-1, 1 KO).
Bouts in the undercard include, Gerwin Asilo (10-1, 4 KOs) locking horns with Jason Mopon (11-21, 1 KO), Leonard Pores III (6-0, 5 KOs) trading leathers with Justine Digamo (4-4-1, 3 KOs), Freshler Utrera (2-0, 1 KO) going up against Romel Eton (2-0, 1 KO) in a clash of unbeaten prospects, and Datu Adam (3-0, 2 KOs) slugging it out with Paolo Fortun (3-2, 1 KO). / EKA
