TWENTY teams competed in the 2025 SK Buanoy Fiesta League futsal tournament that saw Team Marichaw A winning the Men’s Open crown on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Buanoy Sports Complex in Balamban, northwest Cebu.
Marichaw defeated Zehals, 4-3, in a closely-fought championship battle with both teams scoring alternately before Marichaw hit the decisive point with less than two minutes remaining.
In the Women’s Open division, Da Abatars emerged champions with Chona Alumni settling for the silver medal.
The U18 category saw Team SFC winning the boys’ title with the Skina Boys finishing as first runners-up. Little Duchess snagged the girls’ title, while BSC went home with the first runner-up honors.
The second edition of the futsal tournament was spearheaded by SK Councilors Lourdes Isabella Corpuz, Eloise Carmelotes, and Kim Caliwan with the technical assistance of coach Felix Ramirez.
As part of the SK Council’s grassroots development initiative, the futsal tournament was aimed at not just providing players the avenue to play and compete, but also to popularize futsal among local communities.
SK Council member Corpuz said the tournament’s vision is to give exposure to lesser-known sports.
“It is important to champion lesser-known sports like futsal at the grassroots level so we can introduce new options, and give that idea to the youth that there are other sports they can try, and be good at,” said Corpuz.
As a follow through, a futsal boot camp will be organized by the SK Council.
The futsal competition is one of the sporting events featured in the ongoing annual Buanoy Fiesta League. / RSC
