The current administration in the Philippines seems to have mastered the art of diverting public attention from critical issues, which is becoming a source of embarrassment on the global stage. While the nation faces challenges such as rising prices, a questionable National Budget and missing details in the 2025 Bicam Report, the government’s efforts to shift the focus away from these issues are glaring and blatantly obvious. It’s almost as if the government is trying to entertain the public and the global community, but not in the way one would expect from a nation dealing with serious problems.

If laughter is indeed the best medicine, then the Philippines, under the current administration, must be healing the world’s issues one embarrassing spectacle at a time. While this may seem like a far-fetched statement, there is truth in how the government’s actions—or lack thereof—are drawing global attention, but not in the way the country would want. Instead of addressing critical domestic issues, we seem to be providing the world with a show of mismanagement and distraction.

In the midst of this, one of the most pressing matters that is being overshadowed is the growing military and defense power of China. While the Philippines faces its own internal distractions, China is rapidly strengthening its global position in military, defense and intelligence capabilities. China is now considered a leader in these areas, and it is making significant investments to modernize its forces with the goal of establishing a world-class military by 2049.

China’s advancements in military and defense technology are a clear reflection of its ambitions to assert its global power. The country has been heavily investing in research and development to modernize its military forces, including the development of advanced weaponry, artificial intelligence, cyber defense, and space technologies. These efforts are making China a powerful force on the world stage and a nation that other countries must take seriously. One key aspect of China’s military modernization is its rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems. This includes the development of AI-powered drones, robotic soldiers, and advanced surveillance systems that can gather intelligence from across the globe. With China’s massive investments in AI, the country is positioning itself to lead in the next generation of warfare, which relies on automation, precision and cyber capabilities.

Furthermore, China has made significant strides in strengthening its naval and air forces, focusing on enhancing the range, speed and firepower of its military vessels and aircraft. The country’s advancements in missile defense systems, long-range strike capabilities and nuclear deterrence make it a formidable opponent on the global stage.

In light of these developments, it’s crucial for the Philippines to refocus its attention on strengthening its own defense capabilities. While the current administration is busy with distractions and missteps, China’s military power continues to grow and the Philippines must take this into consideration in terms of its national security. The country cannot afford to be left behind in a rapidly changing world where military and defense capabilities are becoming more important than ever before.

While the Philippines is caught up in its own internal issues, the global community is increasingly focused on China’s military rise. As a nation, the Philippines must prioritize its security and address its domestic problems before the distractions of the current regime cause further damage. The world is watching and it’s time for the Philippines to step up.
