Traya gets ABF title shot vs. Thai pug Khongsong

FORMER ALA boy Elmo Traya will face a tough assignment when goes up against former world title challenger Apinun Khongsong for the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) super-welterweight crown on Aug. 30, 2025, at the World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 30-year-old Traya is aiming to extend his winning streak and is gunning for his fourth straight victory.

Since his loss to Abdul Azizi Ssebulime in Dubai, Traya has bounced back with three consecutive wins. He defeated Chinese Wei Wei Liu by split decision in Cebu, then knocked out Thai pugs Vachayan Khamon and Sitthidet Banti, both in the first round.

The 29-year-old Khongsong is an experienced former regional champion. He owns a win over one-time world title challenger Akihiro Kondo, whom he stopped in the fifth round in 2019.

Khongsong also fought for a world championship in 2020 but was knocked out in the first round by then World Boxing Association (WBA) and The Ring light-welterweight king Josh Taylor.

Khongsong won his last three contests against unheralded opponents Thongnin Xayyaseng, Donechanh Phetmala, and Khemin Wongseng.

Traya is 15-5 with 10 knockouts, while Khongsong is 25-4 with 21 knockouts. / EKA
