RICHARD Turner showcased his bowling prowess in the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SugBU) weekly shootout tournament and earned the Bowler of the Week title on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the SM Seaside Bowling & Leisure Center.

In the final shootout, the seasoned U.S. pro league bowler secured the coveted title with 221 pinfalls, surpassing Division C champion Dory Enoveso (186) and Division B champion Celestino Viloria (165).

Turner’s dominance was evident from the qualifying round, where he topped Division A with a commanding 906 pinfalls, leaving local favorites Aui Padawan and Jomar Jumapao trailing behind.

Turner carried his momentum into the finals, where he swept the top bowlers from the lower divisions.

The Division A qualifying round saw Padawan nearly achieving a perfect game in Game 1 with 10 consecutive strikes, but his bid for a 300 game fell short when an unlucky 7-10 split denied him perfection.

In Division B, Viloria emerged victorious in the qualifying round with an impressive 812 pinfalls, securing his spot in the finals.

However, despite a 25-pin handicap advantage, Viloria struggled in the stepladder match, failing to replicate his strong performance in the qualifiers.

In Division C, 82-year-old Enoveso continued her reign, claiming the top spot with 669 pinfalls. She fended off challenges from Steve Bahani and Flor Hodgkinson, proving that age is no barrier to success on the lanes.

Meanwhile, SUGBU tournament organizers, announced that a gold 300 ring will be awarded to any bowler who achieves a perfect score in one of their weekly or monthly outings. / Glenn C. Tan, BiPSU COMM intern
