EXCITING volleyball action is set to unfold this Sunday, July 6, 2025, as the 1st V-League Visayas fires off at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus gymnasium in Cebu City.

Six teams representing various Cebu universities will compete for the inaugural championship in the event organized by the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Leading the pack and ready to showcase their prowess as Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) women’s and men’s division champions are the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, respectively.

They will be facing other collegiate teams with the potential to pull off upset wins against them.

The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, the reigning Sinulog Men’s Open champions, are also participating in this competition.

Rounding out the six participating teams in each division are the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F), University of San Jose-Recoletos, and the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons.

“We’re lenient with the player’s eligibility. As long as they are enrolled in school, they can play. So those who no longer have playing years in Cesafi or haven’t played before can participate in this tournament, as long as they are enrolled,” said Ken Silverio Ucang, commissioner of the V-League Visayas.

The competition was formally launched last week at Quest Hotel, with organizing Sports Vision Management Group Inc. president Ricky Palou leading the ceremonies.

“Cebu has produced some of the best volleyball players in the country, and we believe it’s time to bring a platform like the V-League to the Visayas. This tournament will not only provide a competitive environment but also complement the Cesafi tournaments by giving players more opportunities to excel,” said Palou during the launch. (JBM)
