JAYSON Vayson will move down in weight for a chance to capture a world title when he challenges unified minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo on Sept. 20, 2025 (US time), at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in

Indio, California.

Vayson has been campaigning in the heavier light-flyweight division, where he is highly rated across all four of the major world boxing sanctioning bodies.

Rather than wait for a world title shot at the 108-pound division, the 27-year-old Vayson jumped at the opportunity to fight for a world title by dropping to the minimumweight category.

Vayson is currently ranked No. 3 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 7 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 8 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), and No. 11 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

He hasn’t fought as a minimumweight in seven years. His last fight at 105 pounds was in 2018, when he outclassed Ronald Alapormina by unanimous decision in Baguio City.

Vayson is coming off a second-round knockout win over Jirawat Aiamong in Thailand.

The 28-year-old Collazo will be defending his WBO, WBA, and The Ring minimumweight belts.

Collazo became a world champion in 2023 after stopping Melvin Jerusalem, the current WBC minimumweight king, in the seventh round to win the WBO minimumweight belt in Indio.

He then had three successful title defenses against Garen Diagan, Reyneris Gutierrez, and Gerardo Zapata before unifying the WBO and WBA minimumweight titles with a seventh-round technical knockout of Thammanoon Niyomtrong in Saudi Arabia last year. He also won The Ring title in that fight.

The Puerto Rican champion successfully defended all three belts last March with a fifth-round knockout of Edwin Cano in Mexico.

Vayson owns a record of 14-1-1 with eight knockouts, while Collazo remains unbeaten in 12 fights, nine by knockout. / EKA
