FOR the second consecutive month, Visayan Electric reduced electricity rates for its residential consumers.
In a statement, Visayan Electric said that for the January-February cycle, residential rates have decreased by P0.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), bringing the total rate to P11.26/kWh.
This reduction follows a P0.68/kWh decrease in the December-January billing cycle, which lowered the rate to P11.51/kWh.
Savings for households
These rate cuts translate to significant savings for households, Visayan Electric said.
For a typical household consuming 200 kWh, the December-January decrease saved P136, while the January-February decrease provides an additional P50 in savings.
The rate reductions are attributed to lower generation charges in the wholesale electricity spot market, where electricity is traded.
According to Visayan Electric President and chief operating officer Raul Lucero, these decreases demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing affordable energy while maintaining reliable service.
“Now that the holiday season is over, it is essential to remove and safely store Christmas decorations, especially those that use electricity, to save energy,” Lucero said.
Despite the rate reductions, Visayan Electric encourages consumers to remain mindful of their energy consumption.
As the Sinulog Festival approaches, the utility company reminds consumers to prioritize safety.
Unplugging appliances before leaving for festivities can prevent potential electrical hazards, Visayan Electric said. / PR
