Visayas Command denies mass resignations amid Duterte's arrest

THE Visayas Command, along with the police in the city of Cebu, has not received any reports regarding personnel who have mass resigned following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in connection with a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

According to Viscom Army Information Officer Lieutenant Colonel Israel Galorio, the members of Viscom and the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are all part of a professional and non-partisan organization committed to the country's fundamental laws.

The rumors circulating on social media claiming that many soldiers have lost interest and are quitting their jobs due to frustration are not true.

"VISCOM, as a member of the AFP, remains a professional and non-partisan organization that is committed to our constitutional mandate. We uphold the rule of law and adhere to the chain of command," Galorio stated.

Meanwhile, the police in Cebu City, through Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, revealed that no police officer has resigned, except for personnel who retired due to mandatory age requirements.

Macatangay added that based on their records and the monitoring of their police stations, there has been no indication of dissatisfaction among the personnel.

"Wala tay ikabalaka ana as a unit we remain a strong force and be remain dedicated to our task what is expected of us to do," Macatangay said.

(We have no concerns about that. As a unit, we remain a strong force and remain dedicated to our task and what is expected of us to do.)

The police in Central Visayas also lowered their alert status from heightened to normal after a few days of protests organized by supporters of the former president. (AYB)
