FORMER ALA Boy Jess Rhey Waminal ended his two-year winning drought with a split decision triumph over hometown bet and fighting cop Jusue Bastillada in the main event of Big Yellow Promotions’ “Bakbakan Tres” on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City.
Waminal fought Bastillada for eight rounds, doing just enough to impress two of the three judges. Two judges scored the bout 77-75 for the 30-year-old Waminal, while one judge saw it the other way, scoring it 77-75 for Bastillada, a policeman assigned in Toledo City.
Waminal broke a four-fight slump and won the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver featherweight title. His record now stands at 17-12-1 with nine knockouts, while Bastillada fell to 10-2 with six knockouts.
Meanwhile, Arlando Senoc Jr. made quick work of fellow promising prospect Eugene Noynay, stopping him in the opening round to win the vacant Visproba belt.
Senoc Jr. connected with a right uppercut to the body that knocked out Noynay at the 41-second mark.
The 21-year-old Senoc Jr. improved to 6-0 with five knockouts, while Noynay dropped to 6-2 with a knockout. / EKA
