A DAVAO City councilor said the council aims to achieve 100 percent electrification in all barangays across the city.
Councilor Louie John Bonguyan, chairperson of the committee on energy and water, reaffirmed the local government's commitment to ensuring that every barangay has stable and reliable electricity.
"As the chairperson in the committee on energy, mao gyud na atong damgo no, nga ma-100 percent energized na ang syudad sa Davao (As the chairperson of the Committee on Energy, that is really our dream — to have Davao City 100 percent energized)," he said during the Aprubado sa Konseho, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
He, however, said almost all of the barangays in Davao City already have access to stable electricity. In District 2, the remaining barangay without an electric connection is Barangay Tapak.
"Sad to say, ang nahitabo man gud before no, sa Lapawan and sa Tapak, this year, na energized nato sa Lapawan, ang nabilin nalang gyud ang Tapak, ang nahitabo man gud, nag butang na og mga post ang Davao Light Electric Company, pero gitumba gihapon kay naay road widening, so sayang to, for how many years na-standby ang mga wires and mga pole," he revealed.
(Sad to say, what happened before in Salapawan and Tapak was that this year, we were able to energize Lapawan, but only Tapak remains. What happened was that Davao Light Electric Company had already installed poles in Tapak, but they were taken down due to road widening. So, it was unfortunate because, for many years, the wires and poles were left unused).
However, despite the ongoing concern, Bonguyan assured that everything has already been ironed out with the Davao Light and Power Company and the Department Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
"So nag-agree mi sa Davao Light nga hulaton nalang nato ang DPWH sa ilahang road clearing para mapwesto nato ang mga post sa Davao Light, so kana karon, kanang nahitabo sa Barangay Tapak, ang ongoing, and gamay nalang ang concreting sa ilang main highway. Ang agreement namo sa Davao Light, pag 100 percent humana ang road concreting, isunod na gyud ang post, kay aron maplastar na gyud kung asa ibutang ang post sa Davao Light," he said.
(So, we agreed with Davao Light to wait for the DPWH to complete their road clearing before we position the Davao Light poles. As for what’s happening now in Barangay Tapak, the process is ongoing, and only a small portion of the main highway’s concreting remains. Our agreement with Davao Light is that once the road concreting is 100 percent complete, the pole installation will follow immediately to ensure proper placement of the Davao Light poles).
Bonguyan said that some barangays without power are given solar units and lamps. Trisha Mae Anore, DOrSU
