PHILIPPINE Army commanding general, Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido urged troops to pursue deeper internal reform and professional transformation during his visit to the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division (10th ID) headquarters at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro, on July 24, 2025.

While commending the Agila Division’s operational gains, particularly its role in clearing most of its areas of communist insurgents. Galido emphasized that military success must be matched by integrity and character within the ranks.

“As we win on the ground, we must also win in character — by building a culture of professionalism, respect, and purpose in every Filipino soldier,” he told the troops, stressing that leadership should be seen as a service, not a privilege.

Galido’s visit came amid the division’s growing momentum in the government’s internal security campaign.

Under the leadership of Major General Allan D. Hambala, the 10ID has been instrumental in dismantling key New People’s Army (NPA) elements across Southern, North Central, and Northeastern Mindanao, resulting in more areas being declared insurgency-free.

He challenged soldiers to foster a “new environment” within the Army, one rooted in accountability, ethics, and servant leadership, stating that victories in the field must be sustained by a strong moral foundation.

In recognition of their contributions, Galido awarded Commanding General Philippine Army (CGPA) Streamers to outstanding brigades and battalions, including the 1001st (Pag-asa), 1003rd (Raptor), and 701st (Kagitingan) Infantry Brigades, as well as the 25th (Fireball), 27th (Action), 28th (Kamagong), 39th (Smash ‘Em), 48th (Guardians), 60th (Mediator), 66th (Kabalikat), and 67th (Agila) Infantry Battalions.

Several units also received special commendations for significant accomplishments in high-impact operations, such as the capture and surrender of high-value NPA figures, seizure of firearms, and disruption of enemy encampments.

The visit underscored Galido’s dual call for operational effectiveness and institutional reform, anchoring the Army’s counter-insurgency success not only on firepower but on principles that shape a modern, professional military force. DEF
