THE Department of Education-Davao Region (DepEd-Davao) said that they expect around 1.5 million students for the academic year 2025-2026.
"We are targeting 1.5 million enrollment, our present enrollment is already 1,483,000," Allan G. Farnazo, regional director of DepEd-Davao, said in a media interview, on Monday afternoon, February 3, 2025, at the Davao City National High School (City High).
He said that if the numbers would increase with the ongoing “warmth enrollment” then the region would be able to hit the 1.5 million goal. He said enrollment already started on January 25, 2025, and will last until February 15, 2025. It will be followed by Brigada Eskwela a month before the academic year starts.
Parents who have children who are incoming kindergarten, grades one, seven, and 11, are encouraged to register their children through the Early Registration of DepEd.
Farnazo said that he also hopes there will no longer be heavy rains in the following weeks so that classes will no longer be disrupted. He said the region experienced heavy flooding, particularly in Carmen, Davao del Norte, and some parts of Davao de Oro last year.
To recall, some municipalities, cities, and provinces have suspended their classes or shifted to online classes or flexible learning due to severe weather conditions such as heavy rain which caused severe flooding and landslides.
Farnazo is grateful for the cooperation of the parents and stakeholders in the past school year since they faced several challenges. With the start of the new school year, Farnazo is asking for their help once again because “it takes a village to raise a child.” RGP
