THE Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents (DCTRCDD) is making significant strides in supporting the education and recovery of its residents, with 20 students poised to graduate from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program this May.

This achievement marks a key step in the facility’s mission to empower individuals in their journey toward society reintegration.

In a recent interview with the Madayaw Program on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), Dr. Michelle Maville Schlosser, officer-in-charge and manager of DCTRCDD, emphasized the critical role that the rehabilitation center plays in the reintegration process.

“The rehabilitation center’s mission and goal is to reintegrate them in their families and communities nga fruitful sila (that they are fruitful), and one of their sword to become productive and fruitful sa ila’ng panginabuhi (in their lives) is to have their education,” she stated.

Currently, the center is home to 71 residents, comprising 38 male adults, 24 female adults, and nine male minors.

These residents not only have access to educational programs but also benefit from a wide range of services designed to foster holistic recovery. These include medical, psychological, psychiatric, social, spiritual, religious, and recreational programs.

In addition, therapeutic, psychotherapy, and family counseling services are available to support residents in overcoming the challenges associated with substance use disorders.

As part of its commitment to providing comprehensive care, DCTRCDD is planning to build an aftercare and outpatient facility to provide continued support for those recovering from addiction.

Dr. Schlosser stressed the importance of aftercare, noting that it plays a crucial role in preventing relapse and promoting long-term success.

She added that after six months of stay in the rehabilitation center, it is essential to have aftercare. This means monitoring for an additional 18 months to ensure that individuals do not return to their previous vices, as this is when relapse typically occurs.

The aftercare program will focus on continuous monitoring and support to help individuals maintain their recovery and build sustainable, healthy lifestyles.

DCTRCDD’s said that its commitment to providing essential life skills and fostering a sense of purpose for its residents is among its efforts to equip them for a successful reintegration into society.

The center’s multifaceted approach is not only addressing the immediate needs of its residents but also setting them up for long-term success, helping them to contribute positively to their communities. DEF
