A TOTAL of 22 casualties have been reported following the recent flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains due to the ongoing Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting most parts of the Southeastern Mindanao.
According to the report from the Office of Civil Defense-Davao Region, of the number, 20 were injured while two were missing.
The report added that 13 areas in Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental experienced flooding on December 26, 2024.
Approximately 13,979 people, or 3,446 families, were impacted by the weather condition.
Of this number, 30 families (133 individuals) are currently staying outside of evacuation centers (ECs), while 816 families (3,448 individuals) are currently housed in ECs.
Currently, three road segments and four bridges have sustained major infrastructure damage with one road segment and two bridges remained impassable.
Meanwhile, a total of 317 homes — 129 totally demolished and 188 partially destroyed — have been documented as damaged, indicating the extent of the housing devastation. In addition, seven bancas and seven infrastructures have also been damaged.
In response to the ongoing crisis, OCD-Davao is actively monitoring all areas in the region for potential augmentation of response teams and relief assistance.
As recovery activities are launched, the agency keeps working along with significant partner offices to guarantee the security and assistance of impacted residents.
Earlier this week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the ITCZ and the northeast monsoon or Amihan will continue to affect large portions of the country.
Pagasa warned that possible flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to heavy rains. DEF
