THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will deploy over 200 personnel to ensure public safety during the Chinese New Year celebrations on January 28, 2025.

In an interview carried live via dxDC RMN Davao, DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Tuazon confirmed that the deployment aims to maintain peace and security during the festive events.

The DCPO has already coordinated with the local Chinese community to discuss security measures and planned activities, ensuring a smooth and safe celebration for the many Dabawenyos who observe the cultural tradition.

The police deployment is part of the city's enhanced security efforts, focusing on key areas where the celebrations are expected to take place. With large crowds anticipated, these measures will be essential for maintaining peace and order.

Given the expected large gatherings and activities in the city, the DCPO has outlined a list of strictly prohibited items and behaviors during the Chinese New Year celebrations. These include fireworks and firecrackers, smoking, carrying backpacks or large bags, wearing jackets or sunglasses in inspection areas, consuming alcoholic beverages, using laser lights, making bomb jokes, and bringing firearms, drones, or bladed weapons.

Tuazon also said that while the police are working to ensure security, public cooperation is crucial. She urged Dabawenyos to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain a safe and peaceful celebration.

The city’s collaboration with the Chinese community highlights its commitment to respecting cultural traditions while prioritizing public safety.

Chinese New Year festivities, including dragon dances, parades, and fireworks displays, are expected to draw large crowds. DEF
