THREE police officers assigned to the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, during a surprise drug test conducted by the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao).
The random screening is part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) ongoing internal cleansing program, under the directive of PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil. The three officers have been disarmed and stripped of their badges as they face administrative proceedings in accordance with PNP policies.
Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, regional director of PRO-Davao, underscored the importance of regular drug testing in maintaining the integrity of the police force.
“This is a reminder that internal cleansing is a shared responsibility. Our goal is not just to detect violations but to help our personnel stay on the right track. We continue to uphold the highest standards of service while also providing opportunities for growth within our ranks,” Rosete said.
Just last week, a patrolman from New Bataan, Davao de Oro, also tested positive for illegal drug use. PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey confirmed that the officer is under investigation and may face dismissal if found guilty.
Dela Rey also responded to online rumors accusing her of involvement in illegal activities, which were spread by a vlogger on social media. She firmly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and noting that they had led to unwarranted criticism on Facebook.
PRO-Davao clarified that no high-ranking officials are involved in the recent drug cases, dismissing misinformation being circulated online.
The PNP reiterated its commitment to discipline and transparency, stressing that any personnel found using illegal drugs will undergo due process and face appropriate sanctions.
