AROUND 7,000 Muslims gathered along Roxas Avenue, Davao City, on Friday, June 6, 2025, for the Centralized Congregational Prayer in celebration of Eid’l Adha.
According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the mass gathering for the city-wide celebration proceeded peacefully, with no untoward incidents reported.
Vice President Sara Duterte reflected on the significance of the celebration, emphasizing that Eid’l Adha is a powerful reminder of sacrifice, faith, and kindness.
“Ang diwa ng Eid al-Adha ay nagsisilbing paalala ng lakas ng loob, pagbibigayan, at malasakit sa kapwa mga katangiang lubhang mahalaga sa kasalukuyang panahon (The spirit of Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of courage, generosity, and compassion—qualities that are especially important in today’s times),” she said on June 6, 2025.
She also expressed her solidarity with the Muslim community in celebrating the occasion.
Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to reflect on personal sacrifices they can make to help build a stronger nation.
"The story of Prophet Ibrahim endures because it leads us to the edge, to that thin border between obedience and resistance, where the soul must decide what truly matters," Marcos said. "What stays in us is not the moment of sacrifice, but the silence that came before it. In that hush, we recognize something achingly familiar: the private reckonings, the sleepless discernments, and the places where we are caught in between."
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic holidays. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to the Almighty, symbolized by his willingness to sacrifice his son. RGP
