THE Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao Region (BFP-Davao) recorded 83 fire incidents across the Davao Region from January 1 to 30, 2025.
BFP-Davao spokesperson, Chief Inspector Paul Jorge Barrozo, shared in an interview with dxDC RMN Davao that the majority of these incidents were structural fires, with 52 cases reported.
Residential fires, including those in single and two-family homes, followed with 66 incidents. Non-structural fires accounted for 31 cases, and electrical post-fires had 16 incidents.
The exact causes of these fires are still under investigation and have not been disclosed to the public.
Compared to January 2024, when 81 fire incidents were reported, this month’s total shows a slight increase.
Barrozo urged the public to stay vigilant and take precautions, such as avoiding "octopus wiring" in electrical connections and being cautious while cooking to prevent accidents.
A notable fire incident occurred on January 14 in Barangay Ilang, Davao City. A warehouse fire claimed the lives of two workers and caused an estimated P8.4 million in damages. The victims, who were trapped inside the building that stored playmats, were found among the rubble and ash after the fire was extinguished. DEF
