THE City Government of Davao officially kicked off the 88th Araw ng Dabaw through the Pasiugdang Pagsaulog at Rizal Park on Saturday evening, March 1, 2025.

Councilor Alberto Ungab, acting city vice mayor, said that celebrating the 88th founding anniversary of Davao City is a celebration for the city and the people who made the city what it is today.

“Our city’s progress would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of every responsible law-abiding and peace-loving Dabawenyos,” he said.

He said that this year’s theme, “88 years strong, One Davao,” reflects the strength of Dabawenyos, which is shaped by unity, determination, resilience, and compassion. He added that for the past 88 years, all Dabawenyos have contributed to the growth and success of the city.

Vice President Sara Duterte, in her message for Araw ng Dabaw, said that the festivities are a celebration of Davao City’s success and progress, adding that this celebration is a reminder of the rich culture and history that the city has.

“Kini maoy nagsilbing timaan sa atong panaghiusa, kalig-on, ug paghigugma sa atong pinalangga nga siyudad nga taliwala sa mga hagit, nagpabilin kita nga lig-on, puno sa paglaum, ug matinud-anon sa pagpaningkamot alang sa kaayohan sa tanan,” she said.

(This serves as a symbol of our unity, strength, and love for our beloved city, and despite the challenges, we remain steadfast, hopeful, and committed to striving for the welfare of all)

On this day, the city also unveiled its new official Araw ng Dabaw Song. The song was performed by Ralph Merced and Holy Ray Asidor, composed by Willenito Tormis Jr., with music by Holy Ray Asidor.

Although the number of attendees was fewer than last year’s, they were still entertained by some of the city’s talented artists, including Ralph Angelo Merced, Jona Soquite, Rap Cañedo, D’Squared Cru, Studio 51, UM Chorale, and 5th Avenue.
