CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao Norte — Key security sector leaders and stakeholders across Mindanao have committed all available assets and resources, including manpower and equipment, to ensure the peaceful conduct of the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) on Oct. 13.

“(Our) troops are fully prepared to secure polling places, support civil authorities, and create a safe environment where every voter can freely exercise their right,” Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command, said in a statement Tuesday.

Nafarrete’s statement followed a gathering of key security and poll officials at Camp SK Pendatun, the headquarters of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Region (PRO-BAR) in Parang town, for the 2nd Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) Conference on Monday.

Other key electoral and security leaders present included Barmm election director Ray Sumalipao, Barmm Police Director Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, and Barmm Coast Guard District commander Commodore Rejard Marfe.

Participants unanimously agreed to work closely to prevent violence, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure the secure and timely delivery of election materials.

“We are well aware that elections in the Barmm are often confronted with distinct security challenges, from historical tensions to operational complexities. For this reason, our approach must be anticipatory, not merely responsive,” Nafarrete said.

In an interview with reporters here Tuesday, de Guzman said the conference served as a vital platform to present updates on the peace and order situation, coordinate security strategies, and address operational concerns in preparation for the upcoming Barmm parliamentary elections.

He said the dialogue clarified roles and responsibilities, reinforcing the integrated security framework necessary for peaceful and orderly elections.

Meanwhile, Sumalipao announced that the Army and police will host peace covenant signing activities among political aspirants and leaders as part of the overall strategies laid down by security stakeholders.

Sumalipao also acknowledged the significant challenge posed by the region’s first-ever parliamentary elections, and urged stakeholders to surpass the achievements of the 2025 National and Local Elections.

He called on everyone to strive for elections with high voter turnout and integrity, aiming to reduce protests and failures. PNA
