“YOGA is not about exercise, but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and nature.” – Hon. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India

In today’s fast-moving and often overwhelming world, many people turn to yoga as a way to slow down, find balance, and reconnect with what truly matters—peace of mind, inner strength, and a deeper sense of purpose.

Ananda Marga Yoga, a global socio-economic and service-oriented organization founded in 1955 by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti, brought this vision to life once again through its celebration of the International Day of Yoga.

On June 20, 2025, the Ananda Marga Special Academic Institution (Amsai) held a vibrant Community Mass Yoga Program at its yoga hall along Cabantian Highway in Davao City.

Carrying the global theme “Yoga for Humanity,” the event emphasized the value of wellness and unity in both personal and community life. The program gathered 506 participants from various sectors. Members of the AMSAI and Ananda Marga Davao communities joined the celebration, alongside representatives from A Salam A Likum Inc., Tambayan Center for Children’s Rights, Inc., the Bureau of Fire Protection - Cabantian, Indangan BDRRMO, DSWD Region 11 4Ps, and local barangays, including Indangan, Cabantian, and 23-C. The Badjao community also participated in the celebration.

Dada Mantrajapananda, chairman of the Amsai Advisory Board, opened the event by highlighting the deeper meaning of yoga. He explained that regular yoga practice strengthens the mind, balances emotions, and boosts physical health.

“The consistent practice of yoga asanas not only transforms the individual but also strengthens the well-being of families, institutions, and communities,” he said.

Didi Premamayii, Amsai administrator and longtime organizer of the yoga day program, underscored the organization’s commitment to health and wellness.

“We want to nurture the health of AMSAI employees and our partner institutions,” she said. “Yoga is not just a personal discipline—it’s a collective journey toward building a culture of wellness.”

Participants actively engaged in the guided yoga sessions and expressed appreciation for the experience. Many discovered new insights into the physical and mental benefits of asanas. Several noted feeling more centered, energized, and at ease after the sessions.

Nerlyn A. Altillero, RSW, shared: “It is not about exercise but about the discovery of knowledge. Understanding the benefits of asanas helps us value ourselves through discipline and conscious action.”

Amid rising challenges such as climate change, mental health issues, and social fragmentation, Ananda Marga Yoga offers a holistic approach that integrates physical health, spiritual discipline, and community service, promoting wellness that extends beyond the individual to society and the environment.

By organizing events like this, Amsai continues to promote sustainable living, holistic education, and social responsibility. It invites individuals and communities alike to take mindful steps toward a more connected and compassionate world—one breath, one movement, one intention at a time. PR
