An ASPIN (Asong Pinoy) miraculously survived severe injuries after being stabbed in Davao City, just two days before Christmas

The dog named “Cardo” sustained lacerations to its abdomen, with wounds affecting its ribs, spleen, and intestines, after it was stabbed with a spear at Duha Village, San Rafael in Maa.

The dog was brought to the Davao Emergency Veterinary Hospital. After undergoing surgery, the dog is now in stable condition.

Reports reveal that two days before the incident, the dog's owner passed away. Since then, neighbors have been taking care of the dog, providing it with food and shelter.

The suspect allegedly stabbed the dog upon seeing it mate with his female, high-bred dog, which was tied to the door of his house.

According to Marites Batacan, founder of Animal Rescue Rehabilitation and Fostering (ARFF), the suspect used a 12.5-inch spear to stab the dog.

The ARFF has expressed its determination to file charges against the suspect for animal cruelty.

During a police visit, the suspect said even he was surprised by his action as he did not mean to hurt the dog.

Batacan, however, believed that the suspect had a motive to kill the dog from the start.

"Inamin talaga niya, on record yon. Inamin niya. Sabi niya, nabigla lang daw siya. [But] for us, meron talaga siyang intention na patayin yung aso dahil sa galit niya, dahil nga yung aso niyang may breed, naanuhan ni Cardo,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

The organization, meanwhile, is calling for donations to help cover Cardo’s medical expenses.

In a Facebook post, the Davao Emergency Veterinary Hospital said the aspin “is still fighting for his life” and still remains under “critical monitoring.”

“Though we are seeing small signs of progress, he is still in immense pain and not out of the woods yet,” the hospital said.

In his latest post,  Cardo is showing “incredible strength and resilience.” The dog has also regained his appetite.

Under Section 9 of Republic Act No. 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, “Any person who subjects any animal to cruelty, maltreatment or neglect shall, upon conviction by final judgment, be punished by imprisonment and/ or fine.” RGL
